8th Annual Graduate Conference in Education

The Graduate Program in Languages, Culture, and Teaching and the York Graduate Students in Education (YGSE) cordially invite you to our 8th Annual Graduate Conference in Education – New Directions: People, Passion & Pedagogy.  This conference will provide a space for graduate students, teachers, teacher candidates, administrators and faculty to dialogue and share ideas. The presence of our faculty at this conference is a key factor in its success, for it provides the occasion for faculty and both present and incoming graduate students to meet in a scholarly social space.  It is our earnest hope that faculty will attend in large numbers.  Significant attendance by faculty would signal to graduate students the individual and collective engagement of faculty towards the Graduate Program in Education.

Details about the conference dates, submission & registration deadlines, etc. can be found on the conference website at: www.edu.yorku.ca/GradConf/

We ask you to consider:

  • attending the conference;
  • assuming the role of Chair or Discussant;
  • providing publications for our resource table (books for sale/display or free distribution of scholarly articles and papers);
  • participating at the conference in a panel with your own graduate students.

Please circulate the information regarding the conference widely and invite students and scholars here at York and other institutions to attend the conference.  Participants from all faculties are welcome!  Please post the conference details on your Moodle accounts.

There has not been an opportunity in the present academic year for graduate students and faculty to meet together in large numbers to explore and celebrate their scholarly work.  This year’s graduate conference provides the prospect of discovering shared interests, and also a chance to meet new and part-time students in a convivial atmosphere. The particular circumstances of this fall and winter have created an isolating situation for all grad students within our faculty.  However, for graduate students new to the city, to York University, to the Faculty of Education, and for part-time students, isolation from peers and faculty may have been significantly worse. This conference will help to bring all of us together again.
