The junior grades build on the foundation of the primary years and form a significant transition to adolescence. In this course, you will study how students at this age move to mastery in several basic areas of the curriculum. The course highlights child development for grades 4 to 6, the Ontario curriculum and the recent Junior Expert Panel Reports and its learning expectations, the importance of assessment and evaluation, issues of reporting student progress, implications of EQAO testing, and cutting-edge, research-supported, instructional practices for students. In addition, you will review the critical role played by language across the curriculum, the importance of mathematics and science, and the rich learning environment provided by the arts within the junior classroom.
