Welcome

You are cordially invited to York University’s first “Summer of Sustainability Symposium” on Thursday July 15th at Winters College. The symposium is hosted by the Faculty of Education, IRIS, and the UNESCO Chair in Education for Sustainable Development. Its theme is “Learning, Leadership, and Climate Change.”

David Greenwood is providing the keynote address in the morning.  He is speaking on “Nature, Empire, and Paradox in Environmental and Sustainability Education.”  Following Professor Greenwood, a panel of scholars from the Faculty of Education, IRIS/FES, and Osgoode will present their work as it relates to climate change.

In the afternoon, we will watch Brenda Longfellow’s documentary “Weather Report,” hear from participating course constituents, break-out into smaller groups to discuss specific themes, and conclude with words from Professor Charles Hopkins, the UNESCO Chair in Education for Sustainable Development.

This is a wonderful opportunity to share in critical dialogue, meet potential collaborators, explore conceptual and practical opportunities and challenges, and strengthen the sustainability movement at York and beyond.

We hope that you will attend. Please RSVP to esd_leadership@edu.yorku.ca. You need to register to attend the event.
