New Grad - Mathematics, Primary and Junior (P/J), Part 1

Are you a New Grad interested in learning more about mathematics for teaching? Do you have worries/questions about teaching and learning mathematics? Are you fascinated by mathematical relationships and/or reluctant to identify yourself a "math person"? Well, look no further! In this interactive AQ course we will build on our understanding through professional readings, doing mathematics together, small and whole group discussions, ongoing analysis, reflection and self-directed study. During this two week course participants will engage in a cycle of research informing practice and practice informing research through co-teaching, analyzing student samples and reflecting on how to promote the growth of students' mathematical understanding. These learning experiences will provide the basis for your understanding of current mathematical pedagogy and Ministry policy, as well as enable you to prepare, implement and access curriculum for primary and junior students.

This course is recommended for people who are already certified in the Primary or Junior division. It will not grant you either the Primary or Junior division.

Prerequisites:
  • An undergraduate degree acceptable to the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Be a member in good standing with the OCT
  • Hold a Basic Qualification in the respective Primary or Junior divisions
