Dr. Ron Owston is a professor of education and former Dean of the Faculty of Education and founding Director of the Institute for Research in Learning Technologies (now IRDL) at York University, Toronto, Ontario, Canada. In June 2007, York University awarded him the honorary title of University Professor for his “extraordinary contribution to the University as a colleague, teacher, and scholar.”
Ron ranks among the top 10 in Google Scholar’s list of most cited blended learning researchers in the world. He has spoken at numerous national and international conferences, and published in a variety of fields including online and blended learning, program evaluation, and teacher development in journals such as Educational Researcher, Teachers College Record, Research in the Teaching of English, Journal of Computer-Based Instruction, Journal of Information Technology in Teacher Education, Journal of Computer Assisted Learning, Internet & Higher Education, and Journal of Research on Computing in Education.
He recently led a study of Transforming Learning Everywhere, a one-to-one iPad project in a Toronto area school district’s elementary schools. Currently, he is publishing the results of a multi-year study of blended learning in higher education.
